Spotlight Athlete: Gainous Does It All For Eagles

Edgewater quarterback Kent Gainous is a threat to beat you with his arm and his legs. Last week he led the Eagles to a 17-14 overtime win against Lake Region in the regional semifinals. His stellar performance makes him this week's Spotlight Athlete.
The senior tallied 208 yards of total offense, passing for 93 yards and a touchdown, and picking up 115 yards on the ground and another score.
His athletic ability has been crucial in the Eagles playoff run, something wide receiver Tyler Williams can vouch for, "He is one of the reasons we have been successful this year and have made it this far in the playoffs. Kent is someone who is a gamer, someone who will do whatever it takes to win. Not only does he beat you with his feet but I think he is very under rated as a passer and can suprise people with his arm," he said.
When talking about his character Williams described Gainous this way, "He is the someone who jokes around and likes to have fun but at the same time he knows when to be serious. He is very confident in his ability to make plays and always steps up when we need him to. He is one of the leaders on our team. He not only leads by the way that he plays the game with passion, but he has a presence about him where you know that he is in it to win it, and is going to make the play when something needs to get done," he described.
That passion, hard work, and toughness continues after football season onto the hardwood. Gainous is a starter for the Edgewater basketball team as well and point guard Kendrick Perry says he is a quiet leader, "He leads by actions and not by words. When coach wants something done, he'll do it so well that he brings everyone elses intensity up to match his."
A quiet leader who does his speaking on the football field and on the court, Kent Gainous does it all for the Edgewater Eagles, a testament to a true spotlight athlete.

What's next? Although, he has no offers on the table Gainous says he would like to play football in college. Asked if he had a message to college coaches this is what he had to say, "If they are looking for a player that has heart and determination and can lead a team, I am there. I love the game with a passion. I've been playing since I was little, I want to play at the next level."
Gainous and the Eagles will host Tarpon Springs Friday night in the regional finals.
