MLB Draft: Today's Athletes, Tomorrow's Stars
The Major League Baseball draft starts today and for some local athletes, it could be the first step to stardom.
One of those athletes is Lake Brantley shortstop Nick Franklin.
The five tool senior, who projects to go in the first three rounds according to some mock drafts, has been compared to former Lake Brantley stars Jemile Weeks (first round selection last year) and Felipe Lopez (Arizona Diamondbacks).
We caught up with Nick the night before the draft to talk about his pre-draft workouts and what he has planned for the big day.
What Nick Franklin Said Before The Draft
I had a workout for the Washington Nationals in D.C. and we arrived a day early before the workout to watch the game between the Giants and Nats. It got rained out that night. The next day was the workout. The field was in bad condition from the night before so we had a little infield workout with four middle infielders and there were about 25 people from the organization watching. There were also two college pitchers there but they just threw a bullpen, and since the field was in such bad conditions we had to hit the indoor cages. There were six guys total at the workout.
That day we flew out and headed to the Colorado Rockies workout. The Rockies workout went better at least that's what I thought. The Rockies workout was a personal workout by myself and we did the same thing except we got to hit on the field which was awesome, and at the end end I ran the 60 yard dash which was a little harder just because I did everything beforehand.
I'll be watching it at one of my friend's houses with my family and some friends.
